We had a useful meeting with our BIG Lottery helper and identified how to improve our chances of getting funding for the first phase of the Saline to Oakley path. An important factor is the BIG Lottery’s commitment to Equal Opportunities.” This is not a piece of political correctness but an effort to help people whose voices are not really heard. We are taking this seriously and are particularly keen to hear from people with mobility problems, young people, young families and those of us with mental health problems. Anyone wishing to contribute or, indeed, participate should contact Donald Murdoch at or David Chisholm at Alternatively, leave a note in the community centre

Most folk will have noted the improvements to the Glen entrance, funded by SEG and carried out by the Horticultural Society. More works are planned with additional seats and tables being installed. These improvements have led some people to suggest that the whole Glen is acquired on behalf of the community. Funds could be available from the Scottish Land Fund but this would require a strong demonstration of community support. If you have a view on this, please vote in the poll on the community web site.

It has been suggested that a cost-effective way of brightening up our communities would be for gardeners with surplus plants or cuttings to donate these for planting in places like the Glen entrance. If you would like to participate, please contact John Lyon at

Remember… Saline Environmental Group meets at 6.30 on the last Tuesday in each month in Saline Community Centre. All welcome
